Vermilion and Manchester City Team Up To Help Children ‘Strike A Balance’

Manchester’s top restaurant Vermilion and Manchester City have decided to work together to help strike home a vital healthy eating message to local youngsters, part of their corporate social responsibility.

Chatchai Jamjang, Vermilion’s highly-acclaimed Thai chef, is going into the classrooms with the Blues to give children lessons in healthy food as part of the club’s “Strike A Balance” initiative.
Manchester has some of the biggest health challenges in the country with 12.4% of young people in year 6 at school classified as obese compared to a national average of 9.6% (Manchester Healthy Weight Strategy 2010 – 2013).

The first lessons started with the children of St Bridgid’s RC Primary School in Beswick, Showing them how to prepare balanced, healthy meals and the youngsters also got a chance to join in the cookery master classes.


While the class was going on we showed children spring onions and asked them “what is it”? And as amazement we got the answers like Cucumber!
Manchester City’s “Healthy Schools” project team is also actively involved in the special lesson.


MCFC and Vermilion, plan to take the idea of cookery demonstrations out to other schools in their community. Both the club and the restaurant have played a major role in the regeneration and revival of New East Manchester.
Vermilion & cinnabar restaurant is delighted to be involved in Strike A Balance, which was developed by the club with the Manchester Healthy Schools Partnership.
Our Vermilion Team are very excited to be a partner of Manchester City on a project that can make a real difference to young people in the community.
“Our team is really looking forward to going into the classroom and working with the children to show them how good, healthy food can easily be prepared and they are putting together some really interesting dishes that the children will help them make.
Two of the most popular dishes on the Vermilion menu was cooked for the children of St Bridgid’s – Ginger and Garlic Thai Chicken Stir-Fry and Pla Yang, poached cod with Thai dipping sauce served with Cucumber and Asparagus.

The evening will begin with a red carpet entrance through colourful yet glamorous outdoor lighting features. Vermilion’s Luxury Service will run throughout the evening reminiscent of the Mandarin Oriental, as our Thai
hosts welcome you into Vermilion. The evening will progress with set menus fusing the Christmas festive
season with Thailand’s fresh and delicate cuisine, accompanied with an extensive selection of cocktails, wines and spirits. After the meal guests will have the opportunity to enjoy an uplifting special performance from Thai Dancers with live music in the Abacus Gallery.

VERMILION'S NEW ART GALLERY: VOX


An impressive trio of internationally-celebrated contemporary artists will showcase their work in the first art exhibition in the new non-profit art gallery: ‘VOX’ at top Manchester restaurant Vermilion this summer.


The acclaimed venue has teamed up with Manchester’s leading exhibition and project space ‘The International 3’ in a pioneering project to bring the very best of contemporary art to new audiences in the North West.

‘In Wonder’ is the title of the first exhibition at the restaurant-gallery collaboration which is a first for the region. The month-long show will open with a special preview on Thursday July 21 till August 21st,every day 9.30am till 11pm
They include Swedish artist Johanna Billing. The work that she will bring to North West audiences is called, 'Magical World' – a highly acclaimed video projection filmed in Zagreb. It has been described as a “beautiful and poignant” piece, presenting a glimpse of a country in transformation.

She will be joined at VOX by Manchester-based artist Pat Flynn. His digitally-generated work involves photographic images, animation and installation.

Pat Flynn draws on ideologies, processes, themes and sentiments found in Hollywood films, computer games, consumer goods and advertising.

Critics say: “Flynn presents a fictionalised world full of cliché and pathos, a constructed sublime for passive beings.”

The third artist exhibiting at ‘In Wonder’ is Matthew Houlding, who lives and works in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. Like his colleagues, he has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe.

Houlding's sculptures and collages draw the viewer into a fantastic, retro-futuristic world, inspired by architectural forms and models, modernism and a childhood spent in East Africa. His recent sculptures and collages are a homage to the utopian zeal of modern architecture and Hockney's Bigger Splash painting.

Paulette Terry Brien, co-director of The International 3, said ‘In Wonder’ will explore ideas of utopia, imagined and fictionalised worlds and we are delighted to have secured the work of these three outstanding artists for the first show at VOX’

“Our aim is to bring the world of contemporary art to a different audience, and to be part of a project that engages and gives our guests a taste of the fantastic work being created by artists both in the North West and internationally: ‘In Wonder’ will certainly do that.

“As with Vermilion and Cinnabar, VOX will be an experience that will engage the senses.
In Wonder at VOX Gallery at Vermilion begins on Thursday July 21.

Each guest will be treated with a glass of complimentary Moet & Chandon Champagne on arrival and served a special 3 course menu created by our Master Chef.


This will be available from 6pm – 10pm and every Dad will receive an exclusive gift sponsored by Molten Brown.


After Dinner the second floor Cocktail Bar will be open till 1am.
